Yusha' bin Nun carried out the first assignment of Musa on their first arrival at the Promised land. After the death of Harun he accompanied Musa in the desert for forty years and carried out all the assignments that were previously carried out by Harun.  When they returned to the banks of Jordan River after their wretched journeys in the desert, Musa appointed him his deputy and went up the mountain for the last time. He never came back.
It was Yusha' bin Nun who led Bani Israil into the city of Yareho (Jericho) and arranged the settlement of the twelve tribes of Bani Israil in the land of Kin'an. It was his responsibility to personally see the burial of the remains of Prophet Yusuf amongst his forefathers in accordance with his will.

The same person is admired and loved by Chritians and Muslims. He is a martyr for both because all believe that he was killed and had the head cut.  Close to the Tomb is written" Hussein" in Arabic, which is the Grandson of Prophet Muhammad((PBUH&HP), and an Imam for Muslims Shiias, and he(pbuh)also had the head cut in Karbala.

One of the verses of Holy Quran about John the Baptist (Yahya):
Surah Maryam 12-15

[And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us and full of piety towards his parents; and never was he haughty or rebellious.Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and | will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again].
